Well, you’ll no longer have to deal with my incessant complaining about pregnancy sciatica or not being able to drink wine.

That’s right, everyone– a week ago today I gave birth to my third (and last) child.

Baby Ben! (My name won out.)

I had my 39-week appointment at 8:15 A.M. last Friday morning. My doctor stripped my membrane to hopefully get labor started, but warned me that sometimes it doesn’t do anything.

For me, it worked. I started having contractions a few hours later and went to the hospital at 3:30 P.M.

By 6:15 I was feeling no pain, thanks to the epidural.  At 8:32 they told me to push and at 8:40, there was a baby!

My post-birth experience was quite different this time around.

The hospital I delivered at, Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township, NJ, is taking steps to become recognized as a Baby-Friendly Hospital. The goal of a Baby-Friendly Hospital is to promote successful infant feeding and have lots of close mother/baby bonding time.

So what did this mean for me?

Immediately after the baby was delivered, he was placed on my chest with the cord still attached. He stayed there for a good hour before they took him to weigh him and get cleaned up.

There’s no more nursery, so the baby stays in your room 24/7 and all tests and checkups are done in there.

I actually really liked these new arrangements. I remember hating when they took my other son out of the room for a few hours to get tests and shots in the nursery.

Just wanted to share those tidbits in case anyone else’s hospital is labeled “Baby-Friendly.” You have been warned!

We came home from the hospital in time for the Super Bowl and have spent this whole week getting used to managing three kids. I was starting to think that maybe we can actually do this– and then my three-year-old wakes up in the middle of last night with a fever and vomiting.

So…today should be a challenge! But I accept that challenge, and at least I can have a big ol’ glass of wine at the end of the day.

A special shout-out to my brother-in-law’s co-worker Sarah for making the beautiful baby blanket seen in the picture above. Thank you so much, Sarah!

little ass kicker

And another shout-out to the coolest onesie ever, from my pal Kate. It will only be funny if you watch The Walking Dead, but if you don’t watch it then maybe you need to start so you can get the joke.

Hope everyone has a great weekend filled with sleeping through the night and non-vomiting children!

Did you manage to get your hospital bag packed in time and did Amazon pull through with your delivery?
