I’ve had some time to process and here’s what I think about The Bachelor finale.

In case you haven’t heard by now, Nick Viall chose Vanessa and sent Raven packing on the finale of The Bachelor Monday night.

This was not a surprise to me; I thought Nick’s relationship with Vanessa was way more developed than his relationship with Raven.

Nick and Vanessa talked about the tough topics– where they would live, how they would integrate family life, etc.

Nick and Raven talked about butterflies and puppy-dogs. (Not really, but I never saw any conversations with depth between those two.)

There are people who claim that Raven was the right choice for Nick. This, I do not understand. Raven would have been fine to be Nick’s girlfriend ten years ago, but he’s ready to get married and settle down. I just can’t see Raven ready for that.

I would, however, like to give credit to Raven for her classy exit. She was dignified and mature as her heart was broken just seconds after confessing her love.

I wish these contestants would stop asking what they did wrong as they leave in the Reject Limo, though. All it comes down to is that someone else had a stronger connection with Nick– nothing personal.

Other commentary I heard about Nick this season included the fact that he is not genuine. I have to say, his speech to Vanessa before he proposed (complete with snotty nose and tears) made ME start crying.

Hearing him say that he tried to fight falling in love with her was so honest and real. I will always defend his integrity!

And I find him very genuine. If he wasn’t genuine, he would have chosen someone like Corinne or Danielle L.

He knows that it will be a struggle to make it work with Vanessa, but love isn’t always easy. My marriage is a struggle sometimes; isn’t everyone’s?

Do I think they will last? I’m hoping they do. I will be rooting for them. I think their biggest hurdle right now is the decision of where to live. I can’t see Nick moving to Canada.

I’m excited Nick will be appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Maybe I’ll actually watch it this season.

As for the “historic first” that we were promised on After the Final Rose…well, that was lame.

So we got to meet some of Rachel’s suitors on The Bachelorette. Big whoop. I was hoping for a pregnancy or a live wedding.

Thus another season of The Bachelor has come and gone. I enjoyed it immensely, possibly because I was already a huge Nick fan going into it. And hey, we got Rachel out of it, so that is awesome, too.
