I made it…sort of!

Well, the day has arrived. Day 30.

Even though I cheated at the Sam Hunt concert and had a teeny tiny bit of beer, I still feel proud.

This past week was definitely challenging. Read More »

My old attitude towards having a drink used to be…Why not?

On Sunday morning we packed the kids into the car and went to Costco for some grocery shopping.

As is usually the problem with meat or produce I buy there, the pack of ribs we bought to grill for dinner was way too big for our family of five.

So I invited my neighbor and her family to join us. Read More »

My husband is not happy with me.

My husband is not happy with The Sobriety Diaries.

First of all, let me say that during the four years I’ve been blogging, he has made a comment about my blog less than five times.

And it’s never a good comment. It’s always something negative. Read More »

Alcohol is everywhere in Virginia…and that’s part of the problem!

Back when I lived in New Jersey, getting alcohol was an inconvenience.

I had to go to an actual liquor store in order to buy wine.

It was not sold in the grocery store, or in Target, or at Costco by the (cheap) case. Read More »

Thankful that the holiday weekend is ending…

I woke up Monday morning happy that it was a holiday and happy that a Labor Day Weekend without alcohol was almost over.

I ran four miles with my neighbors, making my grand total for running over the weekend twelve miles…more than I had run in a whole week in ages.

The thing I have noticed the most about these past thirteen days is that I am getting SO. MUCH. DONE. Read More »

I used to hate finding wine glasses in my room when I woke up.

I used to hate waking up and seeing an empty wine glass from the night before in my bedroom.

It was like a visceral reminder that Ugh, I was drinking late at night and now I probably have a hangover.

Yep, the wine glass on the nightstand was never a good sign. Read More »

My kids drive me to drink!

I want wine. Like really badly.

I now realize why I usually start drinking around 4:00 or 5:00 P.M…because my kids are RAGING LUNATICS at that hour!

I seriously thought I was going to have a meltdown, which is why it is 6:16 P.M. and I am hiding in my bedroom typing on my laptop. Read More »

Social events without alcohol are always a little awkward…or are they?

Our neighborhood kicked off Labor Day Weekend with a happy hour pizza party shindig tonight.

I was a little apprehensive about going, because I used to hate social situations without alcohol.

You feel like you’re the only one not drinking. Which was actually true tonight. (I think.) Read More »

Here is what has changed in my eight days of not drinking…

One full week of not drinking has come and gone.

So what is different about my life?

I have noticed a bunch of small changes. Of course, they may not be entirely attributed to sobriety. I’ll never know. Read More »

Some sobering thoughts from a book I’m reading…

So I have mentioned several times that I’m reading a book during this period of sobriety. It’s called Almost Alcoholic.

I’m going to warn you now– do not read this book if you aren’t prepared to hear the ugly truth about your drinking habits!

If you’re like me, you assume that since you aren’t an alcoholic, then there isn’t a problem with your drinking…even if you drink every day. Read More »

My thoughts on an interesting and timely article that came my way today…

A friend who knew I was doing this sobriety stint alerted me to an article she saw in the Huffington Post a few days ago.

The article was “The Way Americans Drink Alcohol Is Changing And Experts Are Worried.”

In it, two different year-long studies are compared, one from 2002 and one from 2013.  Read More »

I gained some insight from a helpful book.

First of all, call off the Amber Alert– I did find Lilly’s lunch box. I went back to the last place I remembered her having it, her gymnastics camp a week earlier.

BOOM. It was right there in the same cubby she put it in.

Thankfully, there were no disgusting food remnants in it. Just a water bottle and an empty bag of Doritos.

Ahh. The ever-elusive guilt-free glass of wine. Moms of little ones, you know what I’m talkin’ bout. (Willis.)

Remember when you could have a few glasses of wine at night with no other cares in the world? When will that happen again?!

I’m 25 weeks pregnant right now. I have 15 weeks to go. Read More »

Washington Lake Park Wine Festival: 6/21 & 6/22

WLP-2014-300x250-BannerAd

Ahhh, the lazy days of summer. When you can kick back on a Sunday afternoon with a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc and relax on your porch swing.

Oh wait. You have kids? Me too. So it’s more like you can either:

  1. Wait til they go to bed at 8:00 9:24 P.M. to finally get that drink in peace.
  2. Lock yourself in the bathroom with the wine while they pound on the door.

OR…you can ditch the kids and hit up the Washington Lake Park Wine Festival next weekend! (Don’t leave the kids home alone, though. You should at least hire a babysitter.)

Can you even imagine? Five kid-free hours to walk around and sample the yummiest wines New Jersey has to offer!

There will be 18 wineries on hand sampling and selling over 300 different wines, PLUS food, music, and artisan crafters. The festival is Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 from 12:00-5:00.

Here’s a recap of the festival last year from my friend Linda of Giggles, Gobbles, and Gulps (one of the event’s sponsors).

Tickets are $15 if you purchase them online prior to the event or $20 at the gate. Under 21 years of age are admitted free.

For tickets and a list of the wineries, visit the Washington Lake Park Wine Festival page here.

So let’s sip into summer with the very best wines that N.J. has to offer! Hope to see you there!

Boozy Play Dates

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.

So Lilly and I had a play date this morning with my friend Katie and her son.

It was great- the kids played together, we got to chat, and everyone had a fun time.

Still, though, we had to facilitate the play and keep watch for sharing issues with the toys, because our kids are still little (1.5 and 2.5 years).

This brings me to my question…when do the boozy play dates start? Read More »
