Disclosure: I received a Dyson DC59 for the purposes of this review. All of my positive opinions about the Dyson are my own…I really am loving it!
I’m kind of anal about having clean carpets, mainly because we have animals (two cats and a dog). Animals that are hairy and track litter.
With a one-year-old (who puts stuff in his mouth) and a three-year-old playing on the floor a lot, I just want their play surface to be clean. This means that I vacuum the downstairs carpet (which is a little too close for comfort to the laundry room litter box) at least once a day…usually right before we come downstairs to play after bathtime.
This used to mean dragging our heavy upright vacuum from wherever I left it last (anybody’s guess, usually) and having to deal with a tangle-y cord and an attachment, just to clean six stairs and a small carpeted room. I would use the vacuum to do the carpet, then hook on an attachment to do the stairs.
The vacuum itself was too bulky to fit on each stair. Annoying! And all the while, I’m holding up the cord with my other hand so that I don’t step on it, vacuum it up, or trip a child with it.
I bought a cordless vacuum but it was more for our wood floors and kitchen– just not powerful enough for the carpets.
Enter the Dyson DC59, which I was lucky enough to receive to review. It is a full-service, cordless vacuum that does everything that your big, heavy one with a cord does. And more!
The Dyson DC59 comes with a motorhead cleaner, a soft dusting brush, a flexi crevice tool, an articulating hard floor tool, and a wide nozzle.
I can’t rave enough about the Dyson. Here’s why I LOVE it:
- It replaces TWO vacuums. It does the light, quick vacuuming on my kitchen and wood floors PLUS it can handle the heavy-duty carpet cleaning.
- It is easy to maneuver. I can even hold my son in one arm and use the other arm to vacuum with the Dyson.
- It conveniently stores and charges in its own wall dock. Now I always know where to find it!
- No more tripping over a cord!
- It is much lighter than my upright vacuum. I can easily transport it up and down the stairs to clean all my floors in less than 20 minutes.
- It’s easy to empty the canister. Lift the Dyson over your garbage can, slide the lever, and the canister pops open and empties itself into the trash.
- It really gets the job done. See video below!
A word about this video…I am NOT a professional videographer, as you will be able to tell! However, it’s another testament to the ease of using the Dyson DC59 that I was able to film the video with one hand and vacuum up a bunch of dumped kitty litter with my other hand!
And in case you were wondering, that was fresh, CLEAN kitty litter that I dumped on my carpet for the demonstration.
So what else can I tell you about the Dyson DC59?
It comes with a wall dock where you can store/charge your Dyson. This is very handy and I actually love it! I wasn’t sure about it at first, but now I always know where the vacuum is and it’s always charged.
When using the Dyson DC59, you have to constantly hold down a trigger. I had no problem with this. The reason behind it? It was designed so you can stop and go without wasting the battery, i.e. you take your finger off the trigger and the vacuum instantly is off– no battery wasting. Fine by me!
There is an option to press “MAX” and have the vacuum go into what I call “turbo mode” for big messes. It’s designed for quick, intensive blasts.
And now for the best news of all!
