Learn how to make your own DIY homemade soap…it’s simple!
My name is Marsha and I am a wife, stepmom, and mom to five kids. I’m here today to share the easiest recipe for homemade soap.
I love DIY skincare, essential oils, organizing, writing, and putting my earbuds in and listening to books/music when my kids get crazy. Like Lindsay, I am also slightly addicted to Bravo and it’s housewives shows.
I love the way that the housewives are able to bring the drama and help me turn my brain off after a long day with the kiddos…and also satisfy my need for drama without bringing it into my real life.
One thing I’ve been focusing on in life is my health and learning how I can restore it. I have been through a lot of health struggles, and since I clearly have no sense of boundaries at all, I’ve written about all of them on my blog! You can read my health journey at www.smalljoys7.com.
Another passion of mine is skin care.
Two years ago my favorite spot in a store used to be the skin care aisle. I’d look at all of the products and dream of a photoshopped face with no acne or wrinkles or sunspots. Then I would spend a ton of money on said products and wonder why they didn’t work and my wallet was lighter.
I really didn’t think twice about the chemicals that were in these cleansers and lotions; I assumed if the store was selling them, they were safe.
I just wanted skin that looked like I ate an all organic and vegan diet…when really, I had binged on my kid’s candy while I was hiding in the closet after giving them a speech on why sugar is bad for you.
Basically, I didn’t want to earn good skin. I wanted to buy it in a freaking bottle and call it a day.
When I FINALLY realized that it was those harmful chemicals such as parabens and other endocrine blockers in all that expensive skin care that was contributing to my hormone imbalance, I decided to change the way I looked at my skin.
Once I switched to natural products, I found that my hormones balanced and my moods were so much more pleasant. Gone were the days of the rollercoaster ups and downs. Don’t get me wrong… there are still days when I lose it, but those are easily fixed with Bravo TV and wine.
Since I love DIY, I make a lot of my own products. (The recipes are on my blog if you want to check those out, like this one for Shea Butter & Lavender Body Wash.)
For those of you who think that DIY sounds like the exact opposite of a good time, thankfully there are a ton of easy options to choose from. Honestly, I use a lot of products you probably have in your kitchen!
Coconut oil is my moisturizer and I use Sweet Almond Oil as my face lotion. Young Living also has a ton of personal products that are free from harmful chemicals.
For those of you who want to learn more about going chemical free, there is a great app I use on my phone called Think Dirty. You can scan your products and it will show you if it’s good for your body.
So now that you are possibly rethinking about what you have been putting on your body, I thought I would share with you a little DIY recipe that’s incredibly easy– homemade soap.
Now, don’t freak out… I’m talking about the “melt and pour” soap.
This DIY can be made with only two items if you don’t want to add extras to the soap. I buy goats milk soap base from Hobby Lobby and use their 40% off coupon.
You can get a soap mold from Amazon.
It’s time to make some soap!
- Cut three squares from your goats milk soap, put those in a bowl, and microwave it for around 45 seconds.
- Once melted, pour into mold.
- Add essential oils or exfoliants to the melted soap. You can be as creative as you want.
- Place mold on baking sheet and place in fridge for 30 minutes to harden.
Now you have soap for your body and face that has zero harmful chemicals and endocrine blockers.
Because I love DIY and essential oils (they have been a HUGE support in my health journey!), I’d like to give away a bundle of FREE goodies I’ve made.
