When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

What do you do when you’re feeling overwhelmed?

Feeling Overwhelmed

The weekends always seem so full of promise.

Two full days of having my husband home to “help out” and no preschool to rush the kids off to in the mornings.

But then, inevitably, it’s Sunday mid-morning. I’ve been up since 5:30 (thanks, screaming two-year-old) and I’m still in my pajamas with a full to-do list.

I start to get that panicky, overwhelmed feeling as I think of all the things that are not “perfect” or “completed” in my life.

I need to get the toys organized for the consignment sale. I need to finish that blog post. Shit. There’s laundry in the dryer that I forgot to fold last night. Read More »

Men Are From Mars…

Men really must be from a different planet.

Men Are From Mars

There’s nothing like a few years of marriage and raising children to make you realize that indeed, Men Are From Mars & Women Are From Venus.

Because despite five years of being married to each other, my husband and I still fail at some simple communication techniques. Things like listening to each other. (One of us more so than the other.)

I swear– he does the most infuriating thing.

I will say something to him, like “The dog threw up today.” Or “I won $100.”Anything really. It doesn’t matter what the comment is. Read More »

It’s finally starting to feel like things are back to normal after Jonas…

IMG_20160124_103111891 (1)

I say this a lot, but I love the promise of a new month and a fresh start.

January started out pretty blah until Jonas hit, leaving my neighborhood snowed in with three feet of snow. Schools in our county were closed all week. My husband worked from home until Friday.

Yes, you heard me right. MY HUSBAND WAS HOME ALMOST THE ENTIRE WEEK. Read More »

The Sock Problem

All signs pointed to the fact that it would indeed be a “yell-y” day, as my four-year-old calls it.

It was Monday, first of all. I had gotten barely any sleep the night before. I don’t know why. It was just one of those nights where I tossed and turned and was awake way too much.

The baby had a bad cold so he was up at 4:45 A.M. to start the day. Yay!

The kitchen was not clean and tidy like I like it be when I wake up in the morning, so that was bothering me, too.  Read More »

Voting Fail

I try to keep it real here on my blog, so I want to share what I consider a huge failure on my part that happened yesterday.

I have been very gung-ho about politics in the past year. Issues like gun control and a woman’s right to choose if she wants an abortion or not have become important to me.

I share my opinion quite frequently on my blog, on my Facebook page, and with anyone who wants to talk about it.

So of course I was very excited to vote yesterday, even more so because there were several races in Virginia that were supposed to be close. I thought my vote really would matter this time. Read More »

I Heart Virginia

After living in Virginia for three weeks now, I can definitively state that I love living here!

I am so happy with the house we chose. It felt like home from the moment we saw it.

My favorite room is the kitchen. It has so many cabinets that I can finally fit all my crap in them! And the amount of counter space! I have a special counter reserved for just my wine rack and my cookbooks. Read More »

Running Towards Sanity

Running Towards Sanity

Running…the sport for people who aren’t good at sports.

That’s how I fell into it, anyways.

My mom wanted me to have an activity that occupied my afternoons in high school. My friends were doing things like field hockey and soccer, but they weren’t for me. So I joined cross-country and track (winter and spring).

I was pretty good at it back then. Nothing spectacular, but I won some (smaller) races in my day.

I kept up with running in my twenties, mainly to counteract the lifestyle I had of eating too much pizza and drinking too much beer. (I was not yet into the wine.)

As I turned 30, becoming a mom of a little one made running a bit more challenging. No longer could I decide to go for a long run on a whim, grab my sneakers, and go. “Be back in an hour!” Read More »

Virginia is for Naughty Mommies

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.
So I know the saying is “Virginia is for lovers.” But I’m hoping that it’s also for Naughty Mommies because that’s where this Naughty Mommy is headed!

WE ARE MOVING TO VIRGINIA.

In case you didn’t know, I currently live in New Jersey. So this will be a fairly substantial move…a little over three hours from my current town.

My husband got an amazing job opportunity in the D.C. area and we decided to take it! Sure, I cried for a week after we decided. But I’m better now. Read More »

The Struggle to View Myself as a Mom

The Struggle to View Myself as a Mom

I’ve had the idea for this post in my head for awhile, but I wasn’t sure I would ever write it.

It’s kind of embarrassing to admit that I have three kids and still struggle to view myself as a mom. Plus, I worried whether or not anyone would even understand what I meant.

Then a post showed up in my Facebook newsfeed. It was called “I Don’t Always Feel Like a Mom” by a blogger named Toni Hammer.

It was like she read my mind and it inspired me to confess my own similar mommy identity crisis… Read More »

A Slow Panic

A Slow Panic. It's creeping in as I prepare for Baby #3.

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.

I have been feeling a slow panic start to creep in as I realize that there are less than five weeks until my son (my third child) will be born.

It’s kind of like when you know a big snowstorm is looming on the horizon, but looking outside it still looks clear. Yet everyone is at the grocery store stocking up on bread, milk, and eggs. (And booze.)

My brain screams competing thoughts like “NOTHING IS READY!” and “Eh, the third one’s not a big deal…you’ll be fine.”

But I’m panicking, nonetheless.

Do we have enough newborn clothing? If so, can we even find it in the attic?  Read More »

12 Random Acts of Kindness Ideas

acts of kindness 2

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holiday season…buying way too many gifts, threatening to call Santa on your kids when they misbehave, or focusing on things other than what the holiday season is truly about.

Because what it’s really about (for me, at least) are things like being thankful for what you do have and spending time with family and friends for the holidays.

So before things get all crazy with 17 trips to the grocery store the week of Thanksgiving, take a breather.

Perform one of these 12 Random Acts of Kindness ideas in honor of a very special little girl named Jordan DuPriest. Read More »

7 Tips for Making Time for What You Love

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.

It seems like there is never enough time in the day to get it all done. Learn how to prioritize and make time for what you really love to do.

In the almost two years that I’ve been blogging, the question I get asked most often is “How do you find time to blog?”

The truth is, I really don’t ever “find” any time to do it. I have to create the time myself, or there would be no blogging (and my husband would be a whole lot happier, but that’s a tale for another time!).

First of all, I think people might assume that I spend more time writing a blog post than I actually do. However, once I have an idea in my mind, it is a very quick process for me to get those thoughts into a post. Maybe an hour, tops (depending on the subject matter, of course). Read More »

 A Wasted Week

I guess it sounds bad to describe last week as wasted, but as far as my September goal to exercise 3x a week…well, it was pretty much a wash.

My husband got unexpectedly busy at work this past week and worked on the weekend plus every single night until 9:00.

This pretty much never happens, so I was unprepared and annoyed. Yes, I realize that these are #firstworldproblems as my friend Lisa likes to say, but still. Read More »

Feeling Burnt Out

Confession: I did not watch Real Housewives of New Jersey last night. I’m not even sure I recorded it. Instead, I relaxed in my bed and watched Big Brother…no laptop in sight!

I have come to dread watching all of my favorite Housewives shows, because when I’m recapping them I don’t get to enjoy them. I’m just typing the entire time. Also, it has gotten so that my husband doesn’t even expect to hang out with me at night anymore. Read More »

Never in a million years did I think I’d actually get to go to WWHL in my life. Tickets are SO hard to come by.

Until suddenly my friend Megan (who works for NBC) announced that she got tickets! And I was invited! AHHHHHH! I totally freaked out. Read More »
