Some sobering thoughts from a book I’m reading…

So I have mentioned several times that I’m reading a book during this period of sobriety. It’s called Almost Alcoholic.

I’m going to warn you now– do not read this book if you aren’t prepared to hear the ugly truth about your drinking habits!

If you’re like me, you assume that since you aren’t an alcoholic, then there isn’t a problem with your drinking…even if you drink every day. Read More »

My thoughts on an interesting and timely article that came my way today…

A friend who knew I was doing this sobriety stint alerted me to an article she saw in the Huffington Post a few days ago.

The article was “The Way Americans Drink Alcohol Is Changing And Experts Are Worried.”

In it, two different year-long studies are compared, one from 2002 and one from 2013.  Read More »

Day 4 was the hardest day for me yet.

The fourth day of my sobriety experiment, Saturday, was definitely the hardest so far.

It was a day where wine would have flowed so seamlessly into my plans.

My friend and I took our daughters to a birthday party at Sweet & Sassy in the afternoon.  Read More »

9 Best Things About Back to School

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.

Here are my favorite things about the back-to-school season!

Here in Virginia we started school last week, but I know a lot of other people are just starting up this week or next.

The back to school season can come with a lot of stress and anxiety, so I am trying to remind myself of all the good things about this time of year.

(Other than the fact that it’s time to switch over from my trusty Sauvignon blancs to Chardonnays for the cooler weather. Or it would be if I wasn’t in the midst of a thirty day break from drinking.)

Here are the nine best things about heading back to school! Read More »

The Sobriety Diaries {Day 3}

I gained some insight from a helpful book.

First of all, call off the Amber Alert– I did find Lilly’s lunch box. I went back to the last place I remembered her having it, her gymnastics camp a week earlier.

BOOM. It was right there in the same cubby she put it in.

Thankfully, there were no disgusting food remnants in it. Just a water bottle and an empty bag of Doritos.

Hangovers…the reason why I am quitting alcohol for thirty days.

Honestly, if I didn’t get such bad hangovers, I probably wouldn’t be doing this sobriety stint right now.

But I get a hangover whether I have two glasses of wine or five…only the severity varies.

Maybe I’m sensitive to wine, but no matter how much I have, I will always have interrupted sleep and a dull headache the next morning. Read More »

Flying Without a License A.K.A. My Costco Card Saves the Day

That time I found myself flying without a license…

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to try to catch a flight home at 8:00 AM when you’re hungover and realize you lost your license (and only acceptable photo ID) the night before?

Well apparently I was curious about this particular situation because that’s exactly the pickle I found myself in on a Sunday morning in June.

To backtrack a bit, my husband and I had flown to Boston for a friend’s wedding on a Friday. We were very excited for a kid-free weekend in a hotel with lots of my childhood friends from New Jersey. Read More »

Here are nine ways to squeeze in a workout…

Celebrate Dad this year by putting him in the story with cute personalized books!

My daughter got one about her and all the Disney princesses, my son got one about him and the Justice League, and my other son was featured in a “Ben and Elmo, Off to School!” book.

They were honestly so cute. Not only were their names weaved into the story, but their pictures, too!

Family Game Night Games for Younger Kids

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure policy here.

If you want to plan a fun Game Night for younger kids, here are some board games that are just the ticket!

In an effort to try to get my kids to watch less television, I ordered some new board games from Amazon the other day.

We already have a handful of good ones, but I wanted to add some more to the mix…hopefully ones that my five and three-year-olds could play on their own, without me.

The three I ordered (Wobbly Worm, Pop Up Pirate, and Yeti in My Spaghetti) were all big hits, so much so that they inspired a Family Game Night this weekend. Read More »
