So Lilly and I had a play date this morning with my friend Katie and her son.
It was great- the kids played together, we got to chat, and everyone had a fun time.
Still, though, we had to facilitate the play and keep watch for sharing issues with the toys, because our kids are still little (1.5 and 2.5 years).
This brings me to my question…when do the boozy play dates start?
You know, the ones where the moms get to sit back with their glasses of wine and snack on appetizers while they chat, and the kids are off playing together in another room for hours, totally content and fine with no adult supervision.
(I mean…there’s a reason these are sold in a two-pack, am I right?)
Do such play dates really exist or am I living in a fantasy world?
I’d swear that they do, because I’ve seen posts and pictures on my husband’s cousin’s Facebook page of her and her mom friends hanging out, boozin’ it up while their kids all play together.
And I am so jealous!
Obviously I’m not going to be knocking them back while I’m pregnant, but I had some play dates when I wasn’t pregnant and they were kind of lame.
I’m hoping it’s just because the kids we socialize with are all still toddlers and kind of need their parents to be sober when they’re watching them.
So possibly it’s just the age thing. Or a location thing. Most of my friends live at least 20 minutes away from me (if not more), which makes the whole drinking + driving kids around = a big no-no.
As a result, I’ve decided that when we move to our next house (when our kids are a little older), I will partly base the location on proximity to my friends. This will enable my boozy play dates dream to happen.
It will be a nice spring day. Me and my kids will walk over to a friend’s house. The moms will sit on the patio drinking margaritas in the sun. The children will run around outside until they are nice and tired. Then we will walk home- the children taking a nap and me getting to enjoy my buzz while catching up on General Hospital.
Hey, a girl can dream…
