The Sobriety Diaries {Day 29}

My husband was away all week and it sucked.

One of the hardest things about this final week of The Sobriety Diaries is the fact that my husband was away on business.

To make matters worse, he was in London. Where they had a terrorist attack a week ago.

Let’s just say I was a bundle of nerves. Read More »

The Sobriety Diaries {Day 28}

I know why people turn to alcohol in times of grief.

On Sunday I got the news that an ex-boyfriend of mine had passed away.

As friends and family reached out to me upon hearing about his death, I repeated each time that “I’m fine.”

Which I really felt I was– just fine. Read More »

The Sobriety Diaries {Day 27}

Unrelated: I need help with a parenting issue.

HELP!

This is unrelated to drinking and sobriety, although I guess technically, it’s an issue in my life that’s causing me stress, so maybe it IS related.

Whatever– I need help.

I can’t seem to get my six-year-old out the door in the mornings without a battle. Read More »

The Sobriety Diaries {Day 26}

My old attitude towards having a drink used to be…Why not?

On Sunday morning we packed the kids into the car and went to Costco for some grocery shopping.

As is usually the problem with meat or produce I buy there, the pack of ribs we bought to grill for dinner was way too big for our family of five.

So I invited my neighbor and her family to join us. Read More »

Trying to figure out what to do for the Sam Hunt concert tomorrow…

The day before the Sam Hunt concert had me thinking a lot about what my plan would be.

Should I drink?

Should I not drink? Read More »

If you decided to cut back on drinking, would you have a support system?

Thursday is always the unofficial start to the weekend in my house.

It feels like you’ve almost made it through the week, plus my husband has off every other Friday from work.

Even during the times when I don’t drink during the week and only do it on the weekends, that means I can drink on Thursdays. Read More »

In Chapter 5 of “Almost Alcoholic,” things start to get real.

Today is Wednesday.

I’m still slowly making my way through Almost Alcoholic.

I really like this book because it acknowledges the fact that you can be a person who is going through a “problem drinking period” without it meaning you are an alcoholic. Read More »

Treat yourself with these ten fall must-haves!

The fall weather has arrived and with it comes pumpkins, apple-picking, fall clothes, and not shaving your legs.

Woohoo!

Now go get yourself a Pumpkin Spice Latte (if you’re into that sorta thing) and check out my list of Fall Must-Haves for this year…. Read More »

The Sobriety Diaries {Day 21}

I’ve been a little short-tempered lately.

I’ve been writing and talking a lot about the stress of the 5:00 dinner hour at my house.

If I had thought that being sober would be a magical solution to making me yell less and be a better mom, I now know that I was wrong.

It is Day 21 and I’m still struggling at the end of the day, still yelling, still feeling like I have zero patience. Read More »

Lisa was my virtual drinking buddy until we both decided to stop.

I met my friend Lisa through blogging several years ago, but I can’t pinpoint when or why we started chatting daily on Facebook messenger.

Eventually, we started talking about drinking.

We shared a love of wine, yet a hatred of how it wrecked our sleep and made us feel like crap the next day. Read More »

Bachelor in Paradise Finale Recap

My thoughts on the end of Bachelor in Paradise…

This season felt so short, but I guess stopping production for several weeks to investigate a non-sexual assault incident will do that to a season!

It seemed a bit anti-climatic, if you ask me.

The best part of the show was talking to the cast after the show had been done for several weeks. Read More »

Drinking is a way of life here.

Day 18 was Saturday.

I got up and ran SEVEN MILES by myself, which is more than I have run in close to two years.

I felt so good during the run, too. Read More »

My husband is not happy with me.

My husband is not happy with The Sobriety Diaries.

First of all, let me say that during the four years I’ve been blogging, he has made a comment about my blog less than five times.

And it’s never a good comment. It’s always something negative. Read More »

Alcohol is everywhere in Virginia…and that’s part of the problem!

Back when I lived in New Jersey, getting alcohol was an inconvenience.

I had to go to an actual liquor store in order to buy wine.

It was not sold in the grocery store, or in Target, or at Costco by the (cheap) case. Read More »

Tuesday evening was full of activities and running around…would’ve been nice to relax with a glass of wine!

Tuesday night was the busiest night I’ve had since the school year started…and it didn’t go as smoothly as I would have hoped.

My six-year-old daughter started gymnastics on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M.

Guess which night her Girl Scout Troop meets?  Read More »

Thankful that the holiday weekend is ending…

I woke up Monday morning happy that it was a holiday and happy that a Labor Day Weekend without alcohol was almost over.

I ran four miles with my neighbors, making my grand total for running over the weekend twelve miles…more than I had run in a whole week in ages.

The thing I have noticed the most about these past thirteen days is that I am getting SO. MUCH. DONE. Read More »
